IDEA 1.

Can I create a social-architecture, not through building but through intangibles... can spaces be abstracted to only their essence (ie the space with is a nothing), to something which is determined only by what happens in them? what does a blank architecture look and feel like, and how can real-time streaming media compete with or replace architecture as the dominant force shaping people's interactions and experience? What is the difference between constructing meaning and constructing architecture? what is the spatialization of meaning? Prepositions connote spaces, relative positions or relations, something is above, below, with something, it is the language of relationship... what knowledge can be generated from understanding spatial relationships especially in regards to streaming media? this is both on an absolute term (like within the house) and in elastic terms, (the relationships that people have to things that are fare away) I'd like to look for something, or make something that draws peoples attention to what is in the middle, that space between them and the media screen, and then again between construction of the reality of what is being shown on the screen and the thing that's actually on the other end.

IDEA 2.
slapping on a coat of researchiness is this thing we do to justify ourselves without thinking about whether or not these studies are usefull. My response is that design research’s active way of learning/experimenting in the world is bringing design process closer to fine art process: away from producing culture in a primary way (like object making or product design) to commenting on culture in a secondary way. Because we are at this school that makes & makes & makes (without really considering), it is well within or ability to make objects that blend into the forms and the visual vernacular of the consumer environment. Right now, everyone here wants to make products that are sustainable and social networking platforms. (its a camera! that you can use to connect instantly to all your friends on facebook!) It would be good to question this impulse using the things we learned in superstudio about creating friction and the friction that naturally exists in connection.

BOUNDING TERMS
the prefix "con" can have two definitions:
1. with (as in "conforming" or "connecting")
2. against (as in "contrasting" or "contrary") look at playing with these relationships of 2 things to each other in order to find the space between.

Its meaning ranges from

In Latin, it was attached to existing verbs (seemingly) just to differentiate it from the base verb (example: compellere < pellere) at which point it could take on new shades of meaning while still being identified with the meaning of the base verb. I have always been interested in this kind of inbetween, limnal situation, how can working between these disciplines, as Rendell does, "suggest new modes of inquiry"?

Pipilotti rist's work, presented in a small lcd screen in the floor, she addresses users, "you are nothing without me". I think its an interesting parallel to the tiny movable screens of the chumby...it's hard to forget museum goers getting down on their knees and bending their heads to get yelled at in a gallery in the Moma.
